Aftercare For Piercings

GENERAL AFTERCARE (All Piercings)

Always wash your hands thoroughly before touching or cleaning your piercing. Clean the area twice a day using a sterile saline solution or wound wash—do not use alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or ointments as these can delay healing. Avoid rotating or twisting your jewelry. Refrain from submerging the piercing in pools, hot tubs, lakes, or oceans during the healing period. Make sure to sleep on clean bedding and avoid direct pressure on the piercing.

FACIAL PIERCINGS

(Nose, Eyebrow, Bridge, Cheek)

Facial piercings should be cleaned gently with sterile saline using a clean piece of gauze or a disposable paper towel. Apply light compresses to the area for a few minutes to loosen any dried discharge and encourage drainage. Avoid using makeup, sunscreen, or skincare products near the piercing site. Do not sleep on the pierced side, and avoid anything that may apply pressure to the area like glasses or hats.

ORAL PIERCINGS

(Tongue, Lip, Philtrum, Cheek, Smiley)

During the first 4 to 6 weeks, rinse with alcohol-free mouthwash or a warm sea salt solution (¼ teaspoon of sea salt in 8 ounces of water) after eating, drinking, or smoking. Sucking on ice can help reduce swelling in the first few days. Stick to soft, cold foods and avoid spicy, salty, or crunchy items that could irritate the area. Refrain from smoking, drinking alcohol, and engaging in oral sexual activity while the piercing is healing. Avoid playing with the jewelry or clicking it against your teeth to prevent damage.

EAR PIERCINGS

(Lobe, Helix, Tragus, Conch, Daith, Industrial)

Clean both the entry and exit points of the piercing using sterile saline solution. Let any crusting soften naturally before gently removing it. To avoid pressure, consider sleeping with a travel pillow or ear hole pillow. Do not sleep on the pierced side or wear earbuds or headphones that rest directly on the area.

BODY PIERCINGS

(Navel, Nipple, Surface, Dermals)

Clean body piercings twice daily using sterile saline. For navel piercings, you may place a clean paper towel under your waistband to prevent friction. For nipple piercings, wear a breathable cotton bra or fitted top to provide support. Avoid tight clothing or anything that may snag or pull at the piercing. Limit excessive movement or trauma to the area as it heals.
